DMRR are delighted to announce details of their 'K-Squad' Mk2 escort! The car features Sellholm dampers, a 5-speed sequential Sellholm gearbox with full-throttle shift, together with a Sellholm axle. Grp4 Fabrications manufactured the fabricated components used throughout, many being special one-off lightweight items specifically designed for the car. The striking silver paintwork is the work of Graham Kelly at Kildare Crash Repairs, and the graphics were applied by Trilogy Visual Solutions.

The DMRR Project Mk2 Escort is powered by a very special new development of Hondas K-series 2.4 engine. The engine is dry-sumped, with Jenvey Throttle bodies, and is controlled by an Omex 700 series ECU. Engines and parts are available for sale from DMRR now!

Monaghan Stages Rally '10: Another frustrating day for Des, on his local event, the Monaghan stages rally. Des had a big spin, and stalled the engine on SS1, losing almost a minute. He suffered a loss of power for the rest of the event, following a broken exhaust on the 2.4 K-series Honda engine. Finally his rally ended on ss7 when a belt cut through a water hose, and Des had to retire the car to avoid damaage to the engine.

Circuit of Kerry Rally '10: Des had a very short run on the Circuit of Kerry, when he crashed out on the very first stage. Although it was a slow-speed accident, and damage was very light, the silver Escort was stuck off the road, so retirement was the only option.

West Cork Rally '10: A frustrating, but also encouraging return to the stages for Des in the DMRR Mk2 EScort on the West Cork Rally. Having been away from the sport for almost 10 months, Des was hoping for a clean run on the 2-day event, but this was quickly scupped on the second stage when he struck a telephone pole. This wasn't the end of the rally however, and in an effort to get more mileage under his belt, Des and co-driver Charlie McEnery pressed on. After finally getting back on the pace to set 6th fastest 2WD time on SS7, their rally was finally brought to an end on SS8 when the alternator failed.

2009 Results

Birr Stages Rally 09:Des started the 2009 season with a second in class 14, and 11th overall, on the Birr stages rally. Des had a great fight all day with Trevor Mulligans MK2, he was just 4 seconds behind Trevor going into the last stage, but couldn't catch him, and had to settle for second in class.

Mayo Stages Rally 09:Not such a good day for the DMRR project Mk2 in Mayo. Des and co-driver Conor Foley made a reasonable satrt in very tricky wintry conditions to lie 2nd in class after 3 stages. Setting the quickest 2WD time on the 4th stage was the high point of the day however, as on SS5 Des 'ran out of talent' (his own words!), and slipped into a soft ditch. With no spectators nearby to help recover the car, that was the end of the rally for Des!

Circuit of Kerry Rally 09:Des had a change of co-driver for this event, with fellow Monaghan man Arthur Kierans reading the notes. Des and Arthur took another excellent result, finishing 7th overall, and second 2WD finisher, behind local man Mike Quinn. The only problem during the day was a broken anti-rollbar, and puncture towards the end of SS5. Des had to yield top RWD times to Mike on all the stages, although he set 5 top 10 times, but was still happy to take 7th overall on his first ever attempt at the event.

Monaghan Stages Rally 09:For Des's local event, Arthur Kierans was again the man on the notes. After their successful result in Kerry, Des and Arthur picked up where they left off, taking 6th quickest time on both the first and second stages. Disaster struck on the 3rd stage however, as with about 3 miles to go, the throttle cable came loose from the pedal! This cost the pair around 1 minute and 20 seconds, and left them down in 17th. This was where the fightback began though, as Des and Arthur charged through the field to reach 6th overall by the end, just over 30 seconds down on the first 2WD finisher, Gary McPhillips. Des set equal fastest 2wd time on ss2 and 5, and fastest 2WD time on ss7, 8 and 9!

Carlow 09:Unfortunately Des suffered a serious back injury during the Carlow stages rally, which will keep him out of the sport for at least the rest of the year. He hopes to have 'The Silver Bullet' back out in 2010.

Cavan Stages Rally 08: Des had a strong, if brief, return to the stages after 10 years away, when he debuted the new DMRR project Mk2. After the first loop of 3 stages Des was joint 15th, and was sharing 3rd in class 14 with Eugene Ferry. Unfortunately on SS4 Des and Graham were forced to retire with a clutch problem.

Sligo Stages Rally 08: Des had a very short run on the Sligo stages, retiring at the end of stage 1 with a problem with the new development rear hubs he was trying out.

GSMC Stages Rally 08: The DMRR project Mk2 Escort grabbed its first result in good style, coming home 5th overall on the GSMC Mini stages rally. Des was on the pace from the word 'go', and the worse the conditions got, the quicker he went, culminating in fastest time on the last stage. Having only completed a handful of stages to date in the car, Des was naturally delighted to find himself right on the pace so quickly. With plenty more to come from both car and driver, the K-series revolution may have begun!

Glens of Antrim Rally 08: Another good result for the DMRR project Mk2 Escort on the Glens of Antrim rally, when Des steered it home to 9th place overall. After a rather slow start Des and his new co-driver Damian Connolly picked up the pace to take a place inside the top ten, and second in class. The only real drama on the day was almost running out of fuel after the last stage!
